With great pomp and under His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew chairmanship the Great Feast of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ was celebrated at St.George’s Cathedral on Sunday, 25th December.
During the Divine Liturgy HAH Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople was accompanied by Metropolitans Elder Constantine of Nicaea, Meliton of Philadelphia, Dimitrios of Sevasteia, Chrysostom of Myra, Dionysios of Synada, Stefanos of Kallioupolis and Madytos, Athenagoras of Kudonion.
After the Gospel was read by Deacon Joachim, Deputy Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod, His All-Holiness addressed his flock with the homily and proclaimed 2017 as the Year of Protection of the Sacredness of Childhood.
At the Divine Liturgy were present His Excellency Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris, Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in Istanbul, Honorable Vasyl Bodnar, Consul General of Ukraine in Istanbul, along with their families, and many local faithful.
After the service Honorable Ahmet Misbah Demircan, Mayor of the Beyoğlu, with his spouse and Honorable Yavuz Meriç, President of Şişli City Council, visited Patriarch Bartholomew on the occasion of the great Christian Feast. His Excellency Mr. Vasip Şahin, Governor of Istanbul, also phoned His All-Holiness and conveyed congratulations to the whole Christian community.
That’s how Patriarch Bartholomew has gathered people of different ethnicity around the Savior’s cradle!
